National School Minigolf Championship to be held in India

Maharashtra, India - The National School Minigolf Championship is being held from January 17 - 20, 2017 at Sandip Polytechnic University. Prior to this event the State School Minigolf Championships is being held January 13 - 15, 2017 at the same location.  The events are being organized by the Minigolf Federation of India (MFI) in conjunction with the School Games Federation of India. 

The sport of minigolf has been gaining in popularity in India and the MFI expects this event to be a keystone in tapping into the potential of the sport within the country.  The MFI expects over 5,000 participants from hundreds of schools accompanied by coaches and referees for this major national event. Per the Olympic Charter, “The goal of the Olympic Movement is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport practised in accordance with Olympism and its values."  Events like the National School Minigolf Championship are in line with this goal and further help promote the sport of minigolf to future generations of players.

The First African Minigolf Summit

The National Kenyan Minigolf Federation hosted the first African Minigolf Summit in Kisumu from September 16th-18th, 2016 with participants from Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania. The Summit was a great success with Statutes of African Minigolf Sport Federation established and an election of a full board. The board will be led by Wycliffe Ngoya (Kenya) as President and Talal Fattal (Ghana) as Secretary General.

Asia Minigolf Sport Federation Delegate Conference

The Delegates Conference of the Asia Minigolf Sport Federation (AMF) took place in Yokohama, Japan on 07th of October, two days before the 2016 Asian Open Minigolf Championships.

Delegates from eight Asian member countries - China, Chinese Taipei, India, Iran, Japan, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam – discussed different important topics, including the minigolf current status and development on the continent.

2016 Open Asian Minigolf Championships

The Open Asian Minigolf Championships were held in Yokohama, Japan during the weekend of October 8 through 10. The event had two categories of competition – one for those who are AMF members (the Asian Championships) and one for anyone who is a member of the World Minigolf Sport Federation (WMF) (the Open Asian Championships). Within each of those categories titles were awarded for individual play and team play.

In total, 56 competitors took to the lanes in Yokohama from 8 countries including China, Chinese Taipei, Finland, Germany, India, Japan, Sweden and Vietnam. Members from Korea and Iran were in attendance for the Delegate Conference that preceded the tournament but did not compete. Rain and wind hit the first day of competition but players and officials toughed it out and 8 rounds for the individual categories were played.

Germany and Austria win big at European Minigolf Championships

Vizela, Portugal – The Open European Championship were held from August 24th through August 27th on the VizelGolfe miniaturegolf and concrete courses. Although rain and thunder suspended play many times during the first day, the organizers of the tournament ensured that all twelve stroke-play rounds and all match-play rounds were completed during the four days. There were 170 participants for the tournament, including 123 players representing sixteen countries, making it the largest event to date in 2016 that was organized by the World Minigolf Sport Federation (WMF) and it's continental federations.
